Outside the Lines

With a sparkle in your eye

You told me secrets of the world

You whispered soft,  to my surprise

We burned the page to watch it curl

And all the others stood amazed

They couldn’t see the scenes we saw

We colored way outside the lines

We danced like lilies in the straw

And though the henchmen hunt us now

We’re not afraid of where we’ve been

We’ll fool the jesters and the clowns

And we would fool them all again

I took you firmly by the hand

And we marched bravely to the night

We forged a trail that’s all our own

Our only compass was moonlight

And when our weary limbs had failed us

We collapsed beside the stream

We built a bed of moss and clover

Not to sleep, but better dream

With a sparkle in my eye

I told you secrets of the world

I whispered soft,  to your surprise

We burned the page to watch it curl

And all the others stood amazed

They couldn’t see the scenes we saw

We colored way outside the lines

We danced like lilies in the straw
